Always up for a challenge, an energetic team from Rendall & Rittner’s Northern division took part in the Christie’s Tower Run in Manchester recently. This involved scaling the 798 steps to the top of the iconic Beetham Tower as fast as possible to help raise money for the redevelopment of the radiology department at The Christie cancer hospital. We were just one of many teams that took part on the day, together collecting over £66,000.
Standing at 169m high, the Beetham Tower is the tallest UK building outside of London. We are proud to support this event as managing agents for the building, working with The Christie and the residents. Having participated myself, I have to admit that running up the 46 storeys was completely exhausting but all for a great cause. Joining me in the race to the top were Nathan Barkley, Emma Beever, Tom Dugdale, Megan Gleave, Katie Mercer, Joanne Sheffield, Geoff Spencer, Tyla Kaur and Martin Windeler.
This is the third time the event has taken place, with the teams together raising over £170,000 in total, which is incredible. The majority of these funds will go towards improvements to the radiology department, which is used by every patient that comes to The Christie. The current department, which opened in the 1980s, receives 120 patients every day and is now in need of considerable redevelopment. The refurbishment will bring larger scanning rooms, new changing facilities and private rooms, and a new area for the cutting edge 4D CT scanner, one of few in the country. This pioneering piece of equipment will reduce the need for more invasive open surgery.
The Christie is a truly remarkable institution but relies on fundraising through The Christie Charitable Fund to help provide enhanced services over and above what the NHS can afford. Donations from the public make a huge difference to the care and treatment that The Christie is able to provide to all patients and their families facing cancer. Thank you to everyone who has sponsored us so far and our JustGiving page is still open, so if you would like to make a donation, please visit: https://www.justgiving.com/fundraising/rendall-rittner1
