For the latest instalment in our 60 second blog series we sat down with our HR Director, Catherine Orezzi.
What gets you out of bed in the morning?
Normally Oscar, my cat, either wanting food or a cuddle!
What do you like most about your job?
It sounds cheesy but every day is different and varied. I like the different hats that I have to wear, it keeps things interesting. I’ve been given the opportunity to build the HR team to deliver a great service to the business and that has been really rewarding.
What challenges do you face?
There is always so much going on and there is always a need for HR advice. We also work in a world where employment law is changing frequently so keeping up to date is always a challenge.
What made you pursue this career?
People always told me I was good with people, I wanted to be a vet! I remember when I first went into Personnel as it was then, I thought it was all about sitting behind a desk and I thought I’d be bored. But as Personnel changed into HR and adopted a more Business Partnering approach, it suited the way I like to do HR.
Who inspires you?
David Attenborough. I think the work he does for nature and conservation is amazing.
What are you most proud of?
Outside of work, I am most proud of some of the volunteer work I have done with Cats Protection and completing the Moonwalk in 2018. Inside work, I am really proud of being appointed to this role and setting up our new company, Rendall & Rittner Operations Limited.
What do you enjoy doing outside of work?
I am very sociable and love doing things with my friends and family. We always have a lot of fun things planned, mostly centred around good food and drinks! I am also a keen amateur photographer. I mostly like taking pictures of landscapes, animals and night time shots. I’m a northerner so I am also a rugby league fan and follow Bradford Bulls for my sins!
What are you most looking forward to this year?
Well, I was looking forward to a number of holidays to celebrate our 10th wedding anniversary and birthdays. But at the moment, being able to go to the pub and have a glass of rose in the sun with my friends!
