Earlier this summer I spent a day working at our Goodmans Fields development in North East London with the aim of gaining a better understanding of the day-to-day work that is carried out at the site.
I spend a lot of time on site at Goodmans Fields so I know how hard the staff work and I was really looking forward to joining them for the day as an Estate Operative to assist them with their daily tasks.
I always knew the Estate Operative role was challenging both physically and mentally, the hours are long and the work is tough which was further confirmed by my day on site! I spent much of my day with Estate Operative Supervisor, Rod, and I enjoyed my time with him and hearing about his role and the fantastic team that he works alongside.
The tasks that I got particularly stuck into were window cleaning and jet washing, I found the window cleaning to be fairly therapeutic, although my jet washing skills need working on according to my colleague Nash! Both of these tasks are completed in pairs which presented me with a great opportunity to have a chat with Nash and get to know him a bit better.
The staff have all the required equipment and products in order to complete their tasks and are very well manged by on-site management who ensure that all health and safety procedures are closely followed. The staff have numerous back of house areas available to take their well-earned breaks in, all of which are of a high standard.
The biggest thing I took away from the day is how professional and diligent the team are and how well they know their roles. Highly impressive.
