It’s National Careers Week, which means this week is dedicated to encouraging young people to consider their future career options whilst providing them with valuable information and resources to expand their career education. In an industry that is continuing to grow, the property management sector offers a diverse range of rewarding career pathways. To celebrate National Careers Week, we spoke to a few members of the R&R team about their career development at Rendall & Rittner.
James Beeston is a Property Team Manager, and has worked at Rendall & Rittner for 9 years. After studying Real Estate at university, James approached Rendall & Rittner for some work experience at the development he was living on and began working as a Temporary Administrator. After a couple of months in the role, James was offered a full-time role as an Assistant Property Manager and has worked his way up from there.
James comments: “Personally, I really like the people management aspect of my job. It’s nice to be involved in so many different portfolios and I normally visit one or two of the developments in my portfolio every week. I find Rendall & Rittner a very inclusive place to work, where people of all backgrounds can progress, so long as they are willing to learn and work hard. I’d eventually like to end up being a Board Director, however, there is plenty to achieve beforehand, such as growing my current team and becoming a Chartered Surveyor - something which has been on my to-do list for some time now!”
Ross Facta is another of our Property Team Managers, having worked at Rendall & Rittner for over three years now. Starting his career in the industry with a different employer, Ross joined us as a Senior Property Manager before working his way up to now overseeing a team of property managers based in London.
Ross comments: “My favourite part of my job is problem-solving. The industry is incredibly dynamic and requires multiple different skill sets to be able to get the job done. I enjoy working for a company that strives to act with professionalism and integrity at its core. Rendall & Rittner also offers great scope for progression for anyone looking to advance themselves and develop their career. The company supports its staff with the costs of becoming qualified with the IRPM as well as offering graduates a guided progression into what is still a growing industry. I am enthusiastic to continue my career progression with Rendall and Rittner. The industry is continually growing and facing new challenges that will require experienced and well-versed property managers to confront the changing landscape.”
Sam Short is our Systems Director and has worked at Rendall & Rittner since 2003. Having originally pursued a fashion career in New York, Sam moved back to the UK seeking a change of career. Working as a PA to Directors Duncan Rendall and Matt Rittner, Sam quickly got involved in all aspects of property management. In 2005, Sam was promoted to Team Leader, before continuing to progress through the roles of Associate Director, Area Director and Divisional Director. In 2020 Sam took responsibility as Product Owner for developing the requirements for our new IT solutions before recently being made Systems Director in January 2022.
Sam comments: “My favourite part of my job has always been problem solving. Whether it’s dealing with an incident within a building, solving a small problem or resolving the most efficient way to manage a significant business process, I thrive on making things better. Negotiation, diplomacy, problem solving and presentation are the skills that I use the most. The subject has changed and evolved, but these skills are still at the heart of what we do every day. These are very exciting times within R&R. Being responsible for our new portal and customer engagement platform carries a good deal of responsibility which I am embracing. I hope to be able to develop this further and take this into new markets as we continue to grow and the marketplace continues to evolve.”
