With a growing ageing population in the UK, the demand for housing for older people is rising. We currently manage later living properties nationwide, offering the high quality of service expected from Rendall & Rittner and striving to meet the specific needs of this demographic.
We understand that later living developments require a different approach to management than other property types. We ensure that the relevant team members are trained to understand the specific needs of the sector, resulting in a thoughtful and sensitive approach with clear levels of personal communication. Many of the developments we manage have a part-time or full-time House Manager and will host leaseholder meetings once a month with the Property Manager, allowing for regular communication and ensuring any issues can be addressed promptly.
Building thriving communities at the later living and retirement developments we manage is central to our strategy. We encourage the formation of residents’ associations bringing residents together as a community to shape decisions and initiate positive change for everyone. Through liaison with these associations, we can work with residents to drive forward the changes that most benefit them, whilst still offering value for money.
As part of our commitment to raising retirement living standards, we have appointed Don Kennedy to Head of Later Living to oversee the later living portfolio, client liaison and new business. Having joined Rendall & Rittner in February 2020, Don has worked in residential property sector for 16 years, with 13 years working in the later living sector. As a former Vice-Chair of the Association of Retirement Housing Managers, Don worked closely with Government to obtain statutory approval for the revised industry Code of Practice in 2017, with specific responsibility for the submission of the Impact of Change Statement.
We are proud members of the Association of Retirement Housing Managers (ARHM), which promotes high standards of management for the sector, focused on the quality of service, professionalism and training of staff, and the ethics of service provided. This ensures that residents receive a great deal with a focus on personal customer service. We are delighted that Don has recently rejoined the ARHM Board, thus reaffirming our commitment to upholding standards in this growing sector.
Drawing upon Rendall & Rittner’s strengths, our Later Living services can include a wide-ranging and comprehensive offering including financial control, legal services, maintenance, cleaning and security, as well as the management of a plethora of on-site facilities.
Speaking about later living, Don Kennedy comments: “At Rendall & Rittner we understand the unique requirement of later living developments. Many of our residents like to remain active and take pride in their developments, meaning they have a real interest in communal areas like gardens. I enjoy being in the privileged position of being able to contribute positively to how our residents live their lives in a safe and secure environment. Many have led interesting, varied lives and are always willing to tell a great tale.”
