Over the last 20 years, WRAP’s Recycle Week has been held annually to highlight the importance of recycling. This year, the event is being held from 16th to 22nd October with the theme ‘The Big Recycling Hunt’ looking to shine a spotlight on the recyclable items that are often missed at home.
At Rendall & Rittner, sustainability has always been a key consideration in the way we operate. Having first received acknowledgment for our management of sustainable developments back in 2010, we more recently secured the Environmental & Sustainability Impact Award at the ARMA Ace Awards.
With everyone from individuals and schools, to governments and businesses encouraged to get involved in Recycle Week, we are once again marking the week with a series of events, activities and top tips that will enable our customers to live more sustainably:
Sustainable Collections
Providing a new lease of life for existing items is a great way to achieve this. As part of ‘The Big Recycling Hunt’, we are looking to create opportunities for our communities to declutter, without sending items to landfill. For example on Wednesday and Thursday, we will be collecting abandoned bikes from some of our developments.
For those re-organising their wardrobes, old clothes can be donated too! Our work with White Rose means that there are collection banks at a number of our developments. This means donations of unwanted clothes and accessories are sold with the profits used to support the Aegis Trust, a charity that aims to prevent genocide, crimes against humanity, and mass atrocities.
Raising Awareness
In the spirit of Recycle Week, we want to raise awareness of recycling so that we can all be better informed on the topic. Throughout the week, we will be sharing daily facts on commonly missed items in homes.
We are also working with a range of organisations to deliver a series of webinars and to host a selection of informational stalls. Throughout the week, webinars will be run by Westminster Council, Delphis Eco and White Rose. On Thursday, residents at Woodberry Down will have the opportunity to visit a Delphis Eco stand to find out more about the company and enjoy the refill station.
Go Paperless
Reducing the waste that we produce is even more effective than recycling. That is why we are encouraging our residents to sign up to our e-communications, allowing us to reduce the amount of information that we print and send. For every resident who signs up for paperless communications on R&R Online, we are also donating £1 to tree planting initiatives. To date, we have almost reached 20,000 sign-ups and will be hoping to reach the landmark during Recycle Week as we are encourage even more people to register.
Continued Partnerships
Whilst Recycle Week is a great opportunity to encourage new habits, sustainability is something that we should prioritise all year round. At Rendall & Rittner, we have continued partnerships with sustainable cleaning company, Delphis Eco. We use Delphis Eco cleaning products to clean many of our developments without the use of harsh chemicals. The company also uses the first ever British-made 100% post-consumer recycled plastic bottles and all packaging is fully recyclable, right down to the biodegradable inks and adhesives used. Currently, Delphis Eco is offering Rendall & Rittner residents a 15% welcome discount. Find out more about how to redeem this offer in our latest Residents Club newsletter.
We also work closely with Britain’s greenest energy supplier, Ecotricity, to secure 100% renewable energy for communal areas at developments across our portfolio. In 2022, we saved 20,982 tonnes of carbon dioxide equivalent through using Ecotricity, highlighting our commitment to providing sustainable solutions for our customers.
